Thimble Clevis is a conductor termination fitting designed for use with PLP PREFORMED™ Dead-Ends on suspension-type and dead-end insulators. It provides a smooth, contoured seating surface for the dead-end loop, helping reduce stress concentration and support reliable conductor termination in overhead distribution networks.
The clevis incorporates a steel pin that connects it through the eye of the insulator or other compatible mounting point. The pin is secured with a humpbacked cotter key, providing a secure mechanical connection while allowing convenient maintenance. If an insulator needs to be removed or replaced, the clevis can be released by removing only the cotter key and steel pin, without removing the installed dead-end.
PLP offers Thimble Clevis designs in different materials and load ratings to suit various conductor dead-end applications. Available models include aluminum and iron constructions, with rated holding strengths ranging from 12,000 lb to 60,000 lb depending on the model. The TC-17, for example, is suitable for many distribution dead-end applications, while other models are designed for different conductor sizes and load requirements.
The Thimble Clevis provides an effective interface between PREFORMED Dead-Ends and insulators, helping maintain the correct mechanical connection while reducing localized stress on the formed-wire termination. It can be used with various PLP dead-end products, with the appropriate clevis selected according to the specific conductor and dead-end application.
Designed for utilities, line contractors and electrical infrastructure professionals, the Thimble Clevis supports dependable conductor termination and simplifies maintenance of overhead distribution systems. Its robust construction, secure pin connection and smooth load-bearing contour make it a practical hardware component for reliable overhead power-line installations.
