FIBERLIGN® Cushion Clamp

Information

FIBERLIGN® Cushion Clamp is designed to provide reliable support and protection for Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) at suspension points on overhead transmission lines. It combines Structural Reinforcing Rods (SRR) with elastomer cushion inserts at the ends of the clamp body to reduce bending and clamping stresses on the OPGW, helping protect the cable from abrasion, wear and excessive mechanical loading. The clamp is designed to reduce the effects of wind-induced cable movement, including aeolian vibration, galloping and sway. It accommodates both left-hand and right-hand lay OPGW and uses captured galvanized steel U-bolts for secure installation. The clamp halves and SRR are manufactured from high-strength aluminum alloy, while the fastening hardware is galvanized steel. Each clamp half incorporates factory-installed elastomer inserts to minimize stress at the clamp ends. A machined central groove provides proper cable fit and electrical continuity, while a grounding attachment allows the OPGW to be bonded to the supporting structure or ground lead. Ground wire assemblies and fittings are also available as accessories. The FIBERLIGN® Cushion Clamp provides an ultimate vertical strength of up to 20,000 lb (89 kN) for a single unit, with a slip load of approximately 10–20% of the OPGW rated strength. Single configurations are suitable for line angles up to 30°, while double configurations can accommodate line angles up to 60°. Thoroughly tested for vibration and mechanical loading in accordance with IEEE 1138 and IEEE 1591.1, the FIBERLIGN® Cushion Clamp provides a dependable solution for protecting OPGW and maintaining the mechanical and electrical integrity of overhead transmission infrastructure.
